BOMBING OF GUERNICA

On the 26 of April 1937, during the Spanish Civil War there was a bombing in Guernica (Vizcaya),Spain. The raid was by the planes of the German Luftwaffe "Condor Legion" and the Italian Fascist Aviazione Legionaria who fought with the rebelds against the government of the Second Spanish Republic: The operation was called Operation Rügen.

At the time of the bombing, the population of Guernica was more or less 7000 people and nowadays we still don´t know how many people died but approximately between 126 and 300 people died during the bombing.

It was a massive attack, almost 70% of the buildings in the city were completely destroyed by the bombs and fire, which could not be off until the next day, and 20% very damaged.

Germans justified saying that there was a battlefront near Guernica and they would send military support, also that in Guernica  there was a weapon factory but the real cause of the attack was that the Basque Country was against Franco`s dictatorship and they were trying new militar material, we could say that Germany, Italy and Franco were allies.
